The Brief
Document the extraordinary life story and career of Singapore’s second Prime Minister in two volumes detailing his rise from obscurity to political dominance, his policy successes, and unexpected setbacks in a career spanning almost half a century.
The Work
Two books containing masterful storytelling by our partner Peh Shing Huei, offering rare insights into one of Singapore’s biggest and most important political and economic personalities: Tall Order and Standing Tall. Along the way, a children’s book counterpart called Panjang came into the picture, telling the boyhood story of Goh Chok Tong.
The Results
Tall Order and Standing Tall were instant bestsellers, reaching No.1 in Singapore and bagging top prize in the Popular Readers’ Choice Awards in 2019 and 2021. They were shortlisted for the Singapore Book Awards, and have since been translated into simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and Burmese languages. Panjang was shortlisted for the Hedwig Anuar Children’s Book Award in 2020, while Standing Tall was shortlisted for the inaugural Dr Alan H.J. Chan Spirit of Singapore Book Prize in 2024.
