Ready, Kueh Set, Go! is an energetic tale that follows five young kuehs at the annual Combined Schools Sports Meet. Each kueh is a champion in their field, but everything changes when Huat Kueh tries to upstage the rest. In the battle of the kuehs, who will emerge champion?
Published in honour of the 185th anniversary of the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, the book pays homage to the clan association’s long history of promoting education, as well as its deep-rooted cultural values of camaraderie and cooperation. The “Famous Five” are also an excellent introduction for young readers to the colourful world of Hokkien kuehs.
Ready, Kueh Set, Go! is written by Peh Shing Huei and illustrated by Quek Hong Shin, the duo behind the bestselling children’s book, Pineapple, Let’s Roll! This slender, easy-to-read volume is sure to fire up the imaginations – and appetites – of children across Singapore, as well as their appreciation of Hokkien culture.
